Mr Richard Baker

Hip and knee surgeon

MSc FRCS MD

Richard Baker is a specialist joint replacement surgeon. He trained to be an Orthopaedic Consultant in Bristol and Vancouver (Canada) and tailored his training to offer both hip and knee replacements including revision of both.

He was appointed to the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (Southmead Hospital) in January 2012. Using the skills he learned in Bristol and North America, he now performs over 300 joint replacements a year between Southmead Hospital, the Spire Bristol Hospital and the Nuffield Health Hospital in Bristol. He is a member of both the hip and knee joint infection teams at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre where specialist opinions are sought on the most complex cases from Taunton to Cheltenham and eastwards from Bath.

He is currently the editor of Hip International, the Journal of the European HIP Society and has been invited to lecture at many international conferences. Over the years he has published many scientific articles on joint replacements. He is currently the hip lead clinician at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre.
